Xbox or Sex Box?

On Fox, an US conservative news channel, they discussed Mass Effect for the Xbox. This game received a mature rating, and contains violence and some (very limited) erotic scenery. The way they approach the game, draw conclusions and discuss it. Is absolute amazing. They did not even play the game, just reproduce a few one-liners and think they really know what they are talking about.

First, let me teach you guys at Fox, gaming isn’t the the domain solely for kids and teenagers anymore. The average gamer is between 20 and 35 years old. And to mention “where are those lovely Pong games” just shows how alienated you are from the subject ( and I can imagine from your video game playing husband and kids).

It all comes down to this…. There aren’t video games that are bad for people, there are however bad parents that don’t have a clue what their kids are doing, online or offline. Games have ratings, implemented to advice you. Secondly before your kids play a game, look at it yourself. It is your responsibility to prevent them from accessing adult material and it’s your decision if your children play a video game or not. The comment “when your away they surely grab dad’s videogames first” shows your not in control at all, you should be. ( hint, there are closets & drawers with keys )

This whole “Fox News Mass Effect issue” just got a follow up in the New York Times. Angry gamers started rating the books of Ms. Lawrence on Amazon, sending the user ratings to hell. And Mass Effects publisher BioWare asked for a rectification on the Fox News Channel. Did you really think you would get away with abusing a game for your own political agenda? People of Fox, you should know better! [link to article]

I just had to get this of my chest… obviously. The video is posted for entertainment purposes.
