A few years ago animal welfare groups were going berserk when the first Hunting simulation games were released. Shooting a deer or an elk was not done. It would stimulate animal cruelty and it maybe even produce more trigger happy hunters. Who would shoot anything that moves on their path.
I wonder why there wasn’t that much fuss when the new Call of Duty or Doom was released. I guess shooting at (virtual) humans, bombing them to pieces, is a perfectly legit way to spend you gaming time. Anyway, after the first few releases it’s terrible quiet at the hunting gaming front. The latest hunting pc game, dates from 2006, titled Deer Drive, published by SCS software. The game offers exactly what you expect, decently 3D rendered landscapes, animals running around to satisfy your shooting itch, and even some weather effects. Deer Drive has a free demo to give it a try.

The next hunting title that will hit the shelves is “Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2008”, it will be available for PC & WII November 2007. Cabela’s hunting games is the biggest publisher in this genre, they previously released titles like “African Safari” ( for PC and consoles ) and “Trophy Bucks” ( PS2 & Xbox 360 ). They even have a full laser gun package, a home theater shooting simulator. This hunting gadget comes with a price though, prices start at $1,999.99 USD.
