It’s hard to describe what what Flow and Clouds actually are. In a way they are games, playable, offering an intriguing experience, but there’s nothing similar out there. Both games are sprouted from the brain of Jenova Chen, one of the first-generation video game design graduates from USC School of Cinematic Arts. He likes to describe them as experiments, prototypes based upon the “Flow” theory.
“In order to maintain a person’s Flow experience, the activity needs to reach a balance between the challenges of the activity and the abilities of the participant. If the challenge is higher than the ability, the activity becomes overwhelming and generates anxiety. If the challenge is lower than the ability, it provokes boredom. “
In Clouds your enter a dreamlike world, you can fly and manipulate the clouds, and create weather. In Flow you enter the early days of creation, whirling your way around a fictive microcosmos as a simple organism. You organism evolves by consuming small creatures that share your environment, and it needs to fight for it’s survival.
